The Jellurgal Jarjums program offers an immersive, hands-on exploration of First Nations culture, designed to engage young learners and spark curiosity about the world around them. 'Jarjums' is the word we use for 'children', and this enriching program has been developed by our team in collaboration with qualified early learning educators to ensure an engaging, educational, and meaningful experience for children and their teachers.

Throughout the eight-week program, children will connect with traditional cultural practices through activities such as music, movement, language learning, and storytelling. They'll explore the significance of Aboriginal art and symbols, gain insight into Dreamtime stories, and even try their hand at boomerang painting and creating their own Rainbow Serpent artwork.

Weekly sessions run for 30 minutes and include interactive activities such as dance, art, stories, and much more. A Jellurgal guide will visit your centre and bring all the required materials for each activity, ensuring that each session is engaging and exciting for every class member.

The program is designed to foster a deep sense of respect and understanding for the world’s oldest living cultures while encouraging creativity, imagination, and teamwork. Each week builds upon the last, and children leave each session with new knowledge and a greater appreciation for the rich traditions of the Yugambeh language-speaking people and beyond.

Important booking information

Please select your preferred start date and time for the Week 1 session in the first week of Term. Subsequent sessions will follow weekly at the same time.

The Jellurgal Jarjums program was redeveloped in late 2024 to enhance child engagement, provide insight into various aspects of First Nations culture, and better align with Early Learning objectives. Bookings for the program are now open.

To allow us sufficient time to travel between sessions and minimise disruption, the start times and days are fixed to Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 9:15 am, 10:30 am, and 11:45 am.

Preferred session times will be confirmed based on geographical location and proximity to the session scheduled before or after your chosen time. This is to minimise unnecessary disappointment caused by late arrivals due to travel time between sessions.

Please note, if a session cannot proceed due to the kindy’s unavailability during the scheduled week, it will be rescheduled to the end of the 8-week program. As Jarjums sessions are now exclusively held during term time, only two backup sessions can be accommodated per program. Unfortunately, we are unable to roll over sessions into the following term.

Your booking is only confirmed once you have received confirmation of your session time and full payment has been made. If we are unable to service your preferred time, we will contact you to arrange an alternative.
